Year of the Dragon Print

Year of the Dragon Print

This piece is special because I was born in the Year of the Dragon and I am here to celebrate it with you! 🐉✨

The dragon, symbolic of prosperity, courage, wisdom, and success, is the zodiac's only mythical being and most powerful sign. Unlike its Western counterparts, the Chinese dragon is a guardian of water, controlling rain and storms to nurture life. Traditionally, they're seen chasing or holding a fiery pearl, representing wisdom and the quest for truth. Here are 7 key easter eggs ✨🥚✨ to look for in this piece.

1. As a celestial guardian, the dragon kneels in reverence before the Gates of Heaven, represented by two golden columns. Each column tells the dragon's tale with sculpted details of a dragon gracefully coiled as it chases the Pearl of Wisdom amongst the clouds. A lotus flower crowns the top of each column, representing purity and enlightenment. Nested in the flower is the Pearl of Wisdom.

2. The Pearl of Wisdom hovers over the open palm of the figure (dragon).

3. Beside him, pillows have a circular symbol representing longevity, one of the Four Blessings.

4. Tattooed on his stomach is the Chinese infinity knot, representing eternal harmony and the interconnectedness of things. On each hand, the yin-yang—represents the balance of contrary forces.

5. The color palette is red and gold. Red wards off evil and brings prosperity and happiness. Gold signifies wealth and grandeur as it's associated with the emperor and imperial power.

6. The symmetrical composition emphasizes the regal and divine aspects of the dragon. It reinforces the dragon as a stabilizing force—that not only are they bearers of good fortune, wisdom, and power, but also the equilibrium found in the universe.

7. The Azure Dragon constellation is above the figure, an important constellation in Chinese astrology. Can you spot it in the painting?

Not sure if you're a dragon? Well, if you were born in the year 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, or 2024, you are indeed embodying the most powerful sign in the Chinese zodiac. 😜
